As per the Local Traffic Committee meeting of December 2023 and as approved at the Ordinary Meeting of Council of February 2024, Council will be implementing parking changes and traffic devices on Cave Road to facilitate improved pedestrian activity to and around the Cave Road shops and Chain of Ponds Reserve.

What is changing?

Council will be making several changes to parking and traffic conditions in the area including the following:

  • Converting the existing  parallel parking spaces on the north side of Cave Road to 90-degree parking spaces, 1 accessible parking space (with a dedicated loading area), and  motorbike parking spaces. The regular parking spaces shall have a 2-hour time limit applied.
  • New kerb buildouts / concrete blisters on both ends of the angle parking area for parking protection and delineation of the traffic lanes.
  • A new concrete median on Cave Road between Morgan Place and Hedges Avenue to reduce vehicle speeds around the bend on Cave Road.
  • A new concrete blister with a pram ramp on the south side of Cave Road to facilitate pedestrian crossing between the Cave Road shops and the Chain of Ponds Reserve.
  • New flat-top speed humps on both ends of the parking area to reduce vehicle speeds through the area and indicate a changed environment.
  • New landscaping around both flat-top speed humps and on Morgan Place.
  • New centre line marking along Cave Road for delineation of traffic lanes.

These works are shown in Figure 1. Note that these works are indicative only and will be subject to change with detail design.

How will this impact me?

The primary impact of these works is the parking spaces on the north side of Cave Road now being subject to a 2-hour parking restriction with the same hours of effect as the parking restriction on the south side of Cave Road, being 8:30AM-6PM Monday to Friday and 8:30AM-12:30PM Saturday.

As a result of the works, vehicle speeds through the area will be decreased and pedestrian safety around the shopping area will be improved.

What happens next?

Council has programmed these works into the short-term Capital Works program and the works are anticipated to be completed within the coming months by the end of June 2024.

Notification will be provided to all nearby residences and businesses prior to the works commencing to advise of any noise, altered traffic conditions, or other changes during construction.
