Citizenship Ceremonies

Becoming an Australian citizen is an important decision.

The delivery of the Australian Citizenship is the responsibility of the Department of Home Affairs, which are supported by Local Councils throughout Australia.

To become an Australian Citizen you must first apply for Australian Citizenship through the Department of Home Affairs.  The Department of Home Affairs manages all information regarding Australian Citizenship, including, applications, approvals, allocations of conferees to ceremony dates and production of Citizenship Certificates.  If you would like information regarding becoming an Australian Citizen or have any questions about your application, contact the Department of Home Affairs or phone the Citizenship Information Line on 131 880 or visit their website.

Strathfield Council aims to hold in-person citizenship ceremonies hosted by the mayor every second month.

The following dates have been scheduled for in-person ceremonies and may subject to change.  Please continue to check this page for updates.

  • Sunday 26 January, 10:00am
  • Tuesday 18 March, 4:30pm
  • Tuesday 20 May, 4:30pm
  • Tuesday 15 July, 4:30pm
  • Wednesday 17 September, 4:30pm
  • Tuesday 18 November, 4:30pm

Please note, in addition to the ceremonies held by Strathfield Council, the Department of Home Affairs hold citizenship ceremonies and candidates may be invited to attend these departmental ceremonies.

If you have concerns regarding individual wait time, please contact the Department of Home Affairs for further advice of your individual status. 

Strathfield Council is unable to move applicants forward on the list or give preference to attend to specific ceremony.

Conferees will be contacted by the Department of Home Affairs when they have been allocated to a ceremony. The Department will send a letter of invitation advising you of your ceremony details. All conferees are asked to please ensure their contact details and email address is up to date in their Department of Home Affairs ImmiAccount.
